Kellywood Properties, Yulee, FL
Kellywood Capital, Yulee, FL
September 2014 – Present
This has been an ongoing side hustle. We started our own real estate investment business while living in Hawai’i, purchasing properties to renovate and then resell. Among my duties are property evaluation, purchase and sale negotiations, hiring contractors and engaging in multiple marketing activities. I have utilized various marketing approaches, including direct mail, Craigslist, websites, and signage. We have expanded into private money lending and own several investment properties in Florida and Virginia.

Realtor
Hawai’i Life Real Estate Brokers, Kailua-Kona, HI
July 2015 – September 2024
As a licensed real estate agent, I worked with both buyers and sellers to accomplish their real estate goals. I prepared comparative market analyses, investigated properties personally and through discussions with other agents, and regularly updated clients on market conditions. Once a property was under contract, I worked with numerous professionals to keep the transaction moving smoothly and toward a timely completion. I represented clients across a wide variety of property types, from vacant agricultural land to condominiums to luxury vacation rentals to small gentleman’s farms. I maintain my Hawai’i real estate license and refer business to fellow agents.

Pastor
Kona Coast Fellowship, Kailua-Kona, HI
January 2018 – December 2022
This was a small, vacationer-focused ministry, so it was not a full-time position for me. I prepared and delivered Sunday morning sermons and Wednesday night Bible studies. During and in the aftermath of Covid I led the church to institute virtual and then hybrid Bible studies. I oversaw the church board and the general ministry of the church. I developed and maintained the church website, which it had never had before, using WordPress.

Pastor
Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, Kailua-Kona, HI
January 2013 – March 2015
I prepared and delivered Sunday morning sermons and Wednesday night Bible studies. I initiated Sunday School and led the church through a comprehensive study of the Old Testament. I organized a church council, made up of ministry heads, which was responsible for church administration. I created and led the Sunday evening worship service. I oversaw community outreach events, such as movie nights and school supply distribution. I encouraged and facilitated a good relationship with the local elementary school, which resulted in numerous ministry opportunities. I created and maintained the church’s website in WordPress. As is the case with many pastors in Hawai’i, I also played and sang in the church praise team.

Pastor
Faith Baptist Church, Richmond, VA
February 2006 – January 2013
Having begun part-time as the Administrative Pastor, I succeeded the long-time Pastor in early 2006. I prepared and delivered Sunday morning sermons and Wednesday night Bible studies. I shepherded the church in the sale of an adjacent land parcel to fund needed church building repairs. I led in engaging the community through basketball and English as a Second Language ministries. I directed the church in opening its facilities and partnering with a church plant, a motorcycle ministry, a homeschool co-op, a daycare group, and the neighborhood watch organization. I recorded a daily YouTube video devotional of the New Testament entitled The Word on the Word. I guided the church in balancing evangelism and ministry through such avenues as monthly work at Medical Respite and a local drug detox center and regular homeless outreach and care. I helped the church develop strong bonds with a local high school through helps ministries to students and faculty.

General Manager
Xactec, Williamsburg, VA
November 1997 – May 2006
Originally, I was hired as a programmer/analyst for one of the company’s ongoing customer projects. The customer eventually decided to scrap its “home-grown” system and I was part of the team which converted their system to a new vendor software package. After this, I was promoted to General Manager of the company. From this point forward, I led teams on projects ranging from small upgrades to full enterprise systems installations. I directed the technical staff and worked with the President and CFO on corporate marketing and finance, as well as fostering relationships with clients and business partners. I continued to design and write software applications which streamlined client warehousing, distribution, manufacturing, and accounting functions, primarily on IBM iSeries systems. I also installed and upgraded numerous iSeries systems in the Southeast US, both hardware and software.

Programmer/Analyst
ALE Systems, Richmond, VA
July 1994 – November 1997
The company provided a total management system for the banking industry which ran on the IBM AS/400. Early in my tenure I was part of a team which was responsible for a portion of the back office accounting features. Then I was chosen to be the lead analyst overseeing the upgrade and rewrite of the company’s loan servicing system. Originally written for the IBM System 36, I led a team in porting the system to native AS/400 code. This system was used by company’s who sold consumer goods and who needed software to assist them in tracking consumer loans made to their customers.

Programmer/Analyst
Gold Medal Corporation, Richmond, VA
May 1992 – July 1994
Gold Medal made leisure furniture which was sold through Wal-Mart and other large national and regional retail chains. I was responsible for creating and modifying screen programs and reports which ran on the company’s AS/400. Since there were only two of us in the department, I was also required to operate the computer system and printers. This included running scheduled jobs for the manufacturing and warehouse personnel.

Programmer/Analyst
The Virginia Insurance Reciprocal, Richmond, VA
July 1990 – May 1992
When I first joined the company, I was working exclusively with a product called IQ which produced fairly sophisticated queries. Over time we phased this out and I began writing RPG code on an AS/400, mostly for the claims department. Most of my work was in creating new reports and modifying older ones.

Registered Representative
National Securities Network
, Williamsburg, VA
October 1987 – March 1990
I managed client securities accounts and made appropriate recommendations. This included researching small, publicly traded companies for possible investment opportunities. We mostly worked with small-cap stocks and penny stocks, but I also pointed my clients toward mutual funds with good returns. While I had steady referral clients, most of my new business was the result of cold calling.

Programmer/Analyst
Stanley & Pratt Consultants
Pratt Computer Consultants
Pratt & Wheeler Consultants
Lee, Darden & Pratt Consultants
, all in Richmond, VA
January 1985 – October 1987
These were all firms in which father was a principal. I developed software and operational solutions for clients in insurance, banking, medical, printing, news media, fraternal organizations, and oil delivery. I started out writing code on IBM personal computers using dBase and Clipper. I then moved on to IBM midrange systems, including the System 36 and AS/400.

Sales Manager
Circuit City Stores, Hampton and Norfolk, VA
September 1983 – January 1985
I started as a commissioned salesman in the ACE Department, selling car stereos, boom boxes, and personal computers during the Christmas season of 1983. I was promoted to ACE Sales Manager after my first Christmas at the Hampton, VA store and transferred to the Military Highway store in Norfolk, VA. I was responsible for maintaining inventories, leading the ACE sales staff, and supporting store management. As the Sales Manager who was closest to the store, I was also the one the police called to meet them at the store when we had an alarm event.
