Technical Highlights

Here are some of the contracts I worked on as a programmer/analyst and project manager for various consulting firms.

AutoPartSource, 2001-2002
I led the team in converting the company’s Unix-based ERP system to the VAI ERP running on an IBM iSeries. We made substantial modifications to the base package to meet the needs of the company’s aftermarket auto parts manufacturing business. I also taught their in-house IT manager how to program in RPG and CL on the iSeries so that he could maintain the system going forward.

Iceland Seafood Company, 1997-2000
When we started with this account, we were tasked with modifying and maintaining their home-grown ERP system running on an IBM iSeries. We ultimately convinced management that this system was saddling them and we led them in purchasing a new A-Plus ERP system from Daly.Commerce. I was named as the project manager to oversee the installation, training, and rollout of the system. We successfully implemented the system, working closely with technical personnel from Daly.Commerce and the internal Iceland Seafood project team.

Kappa Sigma Fraternity, 1987
I developed a complete PC-based membership management system that could be used by each chapter of the fraternity. The system included currently enrolled students as well as the entire alumni database. It allowed for billing and also had a native word processing feature.

MarvaMaid Dairy, 2004-2005
I was the team leader on developing the company’s CRP system, which enabled automatic dairy replenishment for all the retail store locations of one of their largest customers. This system tracked historical sales to create preliminary store deliveries, but could be overridden by store and regional managers to accommodate fluctuations for such things as impending storms.

Tredegar Corporation, 2004-2005
Initially my company was hired to provide a new ERP system for the client. In the end it was decided that their many unique requirements would make it cost-prohibitive to pursue this. However, my time with their technical leadership convinced them that I was very comfortable working with the iSeries. Consequently, I was hired to upgrade all of their aging iSeries systems across multiple locations.

Randolph, Ives, and Wagner, 1988-1989
I was the chief architect and writer of the company’s heating oil delivery system. Based on the calculation of degree days, the system would scan historical customer records in order to determine the next optimal date for their delivery. Each delivery truck had a small electronic reader which tracked the customer number and the amount of each delivery. I created an interface so that the data could be downloaded into the system once a truck returned to the depot. The system would record the deliveries and prepare invoices to be printed.

Virginia Professional Underwriters, Inc., 1985-1987
My first technical assignment was to be the architect and primary writer of an Employee Occurrence Reporting system for hospitals who were clients of VPUI. This system was rolled out to each facility. I developed the system using dBase3 and Clipper. Once this system was complete and on the field, I developed a Risk Management system using the same basic structure.

Young Pecan Company, 2001-2003
I led a technical team in major upgrades to company accounting, processing, and warehouse functionality. This included adding wireless access points and handheld devices in the warehouses at their South Carolina and New Mexico locations. We integrated warehouse scales and other equipment into the existing IBM iSeries infrastructure.
